Initially founded by DR Victor Chang and a group of transplant recipients in 1984, AHLTA has been supporting heart and lung transplant patients, their families and carers for 40 years.
AHLTA supports and informs pre heart and lung transplant patients, and post heart and lung transplant patients, their carers and their families. We provide information regarding research and delivery of health outcomes in cardio thoracic health care; and promote minimisation of cardio thoracic diseases; support organ donation and transplantation; and raise funds for cardio thoracic transplantation research and equipment.
AHLTA is always committed to supporting heart and lung patients and their families throughout their journey.

Our Objective.

- Support and inform pre heart/lung transplant patients and heart/lung transplant recipients and their families.

- Raise funds for cardio thoracic transplantation research, equipment and support facilities and accommodation for recipients and their families.

- Promote the minimisation of cardio thoracic diseases and support organ donation and transplantation.

Our History

1984
The Heart Transplant Club was founded by a small group of early transplants recipients at St.Vincent’s Hospital in Sydney, at the instigation of Dr. Victor Chang
1986
The Club’s changed it’s name to Australian Heart/Lung Transplants Association.
1991
The Committee registered the association as a tax deductible gift recipient..
1998
Was a growing year for AHLTA as we had many new members.
2006
With funds donated to and raised by the AHLTA, and after an arrangement with the Trustees of St Vincent’s & Mater Hospitals, AHLTA house was officially opened, principally for country recipients who have to stay near the Hospital for extended periods immediately after transplantation.

2012
AHLTA’s financial assistance programme was introduced to further support the members.
2014
AHLTA celebrates 30 years of working with heart and lung recipients and their families.
Today
We remain committed to support heart and lung transplant recipients and their families to ensure they have a healthy and active life.
